Global soil erosion evaluation, as a special research project, was set up by the State key laboratory of soil erosion and dryland farming on the less plateau (China) on August 11, 2017, after discussion among invited experts.
This project was proposed by Li Rui, the president of WASWAC, and prepared by Prof. Jiao Juying and Yang Qinke. It was finally obtained the acknowledgement of Prof. Liu Baoyuan, the director of the State key laboratory of soil erosion and dryland farming on the less plateau (China).
This project is aimed (1) to establish the global soil erosion database through collecting recent environmental data that influenced soil erosion; (2) to finish the series global soil erosion maps and to evaluate the global soil erosion risk on the basis of investigation, model, and remote sensing/GIS; (3) to analyze global soil erosion distribution and characteristics; (4) to reveal the relationships between global change and main factors to influence the spatial variation; (5) to provide support for the treatment of soil erosion.
This project will be very meaningful not only for the theory and methods on evaluating soil erosion in regional scale, but also for drawing up the strategies to control soil erosion in global scale.
