Locally heavy rains over the weekend produced widespread flooding across Thailand.
Flooding hit the nation's capital of Bangkok Saturday into Sunday when nearly 3 inches of rain fell, mostly in a very short period of time. Gusty winds also accompanied some of the rain, helping to down some trees and power lines in the area.
Heavy rains have also prompted officials to close many area roads, including some major highways, as flood waters overtook the roads.
More rainfall, some heavy, will impact Thailand over the next several days as tropical moisture continues to move northward.
Daily rainfall totals of 2-4 inches will occur throughout southern and central Thailand each day through at least midweek. This rain can lead to additional flood problems throughout the country, while aggravating current flooding.
